ElevenLabs, the London-based company best known for its AI voice synthesis technology, has released an iOS application called ElevenMusic that enables users to create songs using natural language prompts. The app, which appeared on the Apple App Store on April 1 and was reported by TechCrunch on April 2, positions ElevenLabs as a direct competitor to established AI music platforms Suno and Udio.

How ElevenMusic Works

The app allows free-tier users to generate up to seven songs per day through text-based prompts. Users can specify parameters including song length, whether the track includes lyrics, and the desired writing style. ElevenMusic also includes a social discovery layer where users can browse songs created by other users and remix them with additional text prompts.

Beyond user-generated content, the app offers curated experiences such as live stations, pre-created albums, and daily mixes organized by mood categories including Focus, Energy, Relax, Late Night, Cosmic, and Chill.

For users who need higher output, ElevenLabs offers a Pro subscription at $9.99 per month or $95.90 per year, which provides increased monthly song generation limits, expanded storage, and access to additional music styles and moods.

Strategic Expansion Beyond Voice

The launch of ElevenMusic signals a deliberate broadening of ElevenLabs’ product portfolio. The company, which originally built its reputation on text-to-speech and voice cloning models, has increasingly moved into adjacent audio domains including sound effects, dubbing, and now music generation.

This diversification strategy comes at a time when ElevenLabs has more than tripled its valuation to $11 billion, following a $500 million funding round in February 2026 led by Sequoia Capital with participation from Andreessen Horowitz and Iconiq. The company closed 2025 with over $330 million in annual recurring revenue and has indicated that it plans to be IPO-ready within two to three years.

ElevenLabs has described the move into music and other creative media as a hedge against the eventual commoditization of AI audio models. By building consumer-facing applications across multiple audio verticals, the company aims to maintain its competitive position even as the underlying model technology becomes more widely available.

A Crowded and Contentious Market

ElevenMusic enters a market that has grown rapidly but remains fraught with legal uncertainty. Suno, one of the leading AI music generation platforms, has attracted 2 million paid subscribers and has been expanding its team, according to TechCrunch. However, both Suno and Udio face ongoing copyright litigation from major record labels over the use of copyrighted music in training data.

The app’s iOS-only launch and free tier suggest an initial strategy focused on user acquisition and engagement rather than immediate monetization. Whether ElevenMusic can differentiate itself in a market already populated by well-funded competitors will depend in part on the quality of its music generation models and its ability to navigate the evolving legal landscape around AI-generated music.
