The ID. Polo will be available with three power outputs — 85 kW (114 hp), 99 kW (133 hp), and 155 kW (208 hp) — according to Electrek. The 155 kW variant is powered by a 52 kWh NMC battery, offering a WLTP driving range of up to 282 miles (454 km). A high-performance GTI version delivering 166 kW (223 hp) will join later this year, extending the Polo line into the hot-hatch segment that the gasoline GTI helped to define.

Dimensions are close to the existing combustion Polo. Electrek’s launch coverage gives the new car as 4,053 mm in length, 1,816 mm in width, and 1,530 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,600 mm — about the same overall footprint as the gas-powered model, despite carrying a battery pack and electric drivetrain.

Volkswagen brand CEO Thomas Schäfer framed the launch as a deliberate move down-market. “With the ID. Polo, we are making electric mobility accessible to many more people: with clear and timeless design, intuitive operation, strong quality and technologies from higher segments,” Schäfer said in a statement carried by Electrek.

The most-quoted price — the 25,000 euro starting figure repeated in Volkswagen’s marketing and in Schäfer’s pre-launch comments — is not yet the price customers can pay. Pre-orders that opened on April 29 are for the better-equipped ID. Polo Life with the 155 kW drive and 52 kWh battery, starting at 33,795 euros ($40,000) in Germany. Volkswagen has said only that the 25,000 euro base trim will follow shortly, without disclosing a precise on-sale date or which combination of motor and battery will sit at that entry price. Initial deliveries, exact GTI timing within “later this year,” and whether ID. Polo will be sold outside Europe also remain unaddressed in the launch communications.
