Overview

German drone startup Quantum Systems has raised $1.2 billion in a Series D funding round that pushes its valuation to about $8 billion, according to Tech Startups. The Munich-based maker of autonomous uncrewed systems was valued at roughly $3.5 billion as recently as November 2025, according to Tech Startups, meaning the new round more than doubles what the company was worth about seven months earlier.

What We Know

The Series D was co-led by Blackstone, Noteus, Airbus, and Advent, with participation from Bond, Fidelity Management & Research Company, Balderton, and HV Capital, according to Tech Startups.

Quantum Systems said it is now profitable, a milestone the outlet described as rare among venture-backed startups raising billion-dollar rounds, as reported by Tech Startups. The company has established a significant presence in Ukraine, where it said its systems completed more than 19,000 missions during 2025, according to Tech Startups. It has expanded its manufacturing footprint across Germany, Ukraine, the United States, Australia, Romania, the United Kingdom, and the Baltic states, the same report said.

“The future is unmanned,” said co-founder and co-CEO Florian Seibel in comments reported by Tech Startups. “Defense will be defined by autonomous systems that can operate together across domains in real time.” Seibel said the company aims to build what he called a next-generation “neo prime” and now has more than $1.2 billion in what he termed dry powder to execute, per the same report.

The Company

Quantum Systems builds several classes of drone. Its Trinity model, built around an electric vertical takeoff and landing design, is used for geospatial surveying, according to Tech Startups. The Vector model, reserved for government clients, handles intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance operations, while a newer platform called the Jaeger moves further into airspace defense, the same outlet reported. The company established two production facilities in Ukraine after the invasion and had planned to double that capacity in 2025, according to Tech Startups.

The Funding Environment

The raise lands amid a broader surge of capital into defense technology. In the first quarter of 2026, venture capitalists deployed a record $19.8 billion into defense tech across 262 deals, according to Fortune; that figure was $5.7 billion in the first quarter of 2024 and about $17 billion in the first quarter of 2025, the same report said.

The momentum builds on a record 2025. Equity funding for defense-technology startups more than doubled to $17.9 billion last year from $7.3 billion in 2024, according to Defense News, with defense-tech equity funding in Europe rising 38% to $2.48 billion over the same period, the outlet reported.

What We Don’t Know

The reporting on the round does not detail how the $1.2 billion will be split across manufacturing, supply chain, and software investment, nor does it specify unit delivery targets or revenue figures tied to the new valuation. Whether the fresh capital translates into the multi-domain, cross-border autonomy that Seibel described, and whether the wider defense-tech funding boom proves durable rather than a bubble, remain open questions.
