Blender 5.2 LTS Ships With Remote Asset Libraries, Cycles Texture Cache, and Experimental Physics in Geometry Nodes
Blender 5.2 arrived July 14 as the project's newest long-term support release, adding experimental node-based physics for cloth and hair, remotely hosted asset libraries, a Cycles texture cache, and EEVEE performance improvements.

The Blender project has released Blender 5.2, the latest long-term support version of the free and open-source 3D creation suite, on July 14, 2026, according to Linuxiac. Phoronix reported the same day that Blender 5.2 was out as the newest Long Term Support release of the 3D modeling software. The v5.2.0 release tag was cut on the project’s official GitHub repository a day earlier, on July 13, as shown on the tag page, which records the version-bump commit for the release.
The update touches most of the suite’s major subsystems, from simulation and rendering to 2D drawing and video editing.
What We Know
Experimental physics arrives in Geometry Nodes. According to Linuxiac, Blender 5.2 introduces an experimental physics system built around Geometry Nodes that initially focuses on cloth and hair simulations, and users can now create and customize physical behavior through procedural node graphs. The same report notes two structural additions to the node system: lists, which can store an arbitrary number of values, and functions, which let node groups be configured as reusable functions.
Asset libraries go online. Phoronix reported that Blender 5.2 now supports online asset libraries, with the ability to register remotely hosted asset libraries, browse them within Blender, and download assets on an as-needed basis. Linuxiac writes that remotely hosted libraries can be registered and browsed directly in Blender’s Asset Browser, with individual assets downloaded only when required.
Cycles gets a texture cache. Per Linuxiac, Blender can now generate optimized .tx files for the images used by a scene, and the Cycles renderer then loads the required texture data more selectively rather than keeping every full-resolution image in memory.
EEVEE performance work. Phoronix reported that the EEVEE renderer now supports the same instancing optimizations as Workbench and Overlay, which makes CPU-bottlenecked, instancing-heavy scenes up to twice as fast. Linuxiac reports that EEVEE’s screen-space ray-tracing pipeline has undergone a major cleanup, and that scenes containing large numbers of repeated objects, collection instances, vegetation, architectural components, or crowd elements should now require less CPU work.
Color management for camera footage. The release adds new input color spaces for Apple, ARRI, Blackmagic Design, Canon, and Sony cameras, according to Phoronix.
Grease Pencil and other tools. Linuxiac reports that the Grease Pencil 2D toolset receives a completely new Fill tool based on a Delaunay solver, with the new implementation creating precise geometry from surrounding boundary strokes. The same report details several smaller additions: Sculpt Mode includes a Scene Project brush that moves vertices toward surfaces belonging to other objects in the scene; a new VR Location Scouting tool allows exploring virtual sets from inside a VR headset; the Video Sequencer now lets users choose which view layer a scene strip should display; the glTF exporter gains point-cloud support; and the Compositor adds support for more Geometry Nodes-style socket and node types, including matrices and rotations.
