Overview

Capcom used Summer Game Fest 2026 to announce Resident Evil Veronica, a remake of the 2000 survival-horror title Resident Evil Code: Veronica. According to Video Games Chronicle, the game is officially titled Resident Evil Veronica and is scheduled to launch in 2027. Capcom described the project alongside its reveal trailer, saying: “This new title preserves the essence of the original game, while introducing modernized gameplay, a reimagined storyline, and vividly detailed graphics,” per the same VGC report.

What We Know

The remake is planned for a 2027 release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC, according to VGC. The source material, Resident Evil Code: Veronica, was released in 2000 as an exclusive for the Sega Dreamcast, the same outlet reported.

The remake follows the original premise. As VGC reported, the story follows Claire Redfield and her brother, Chris Redfield, as they fight to survive an outbreak on a remote prison island. Kotaku adds that the events take place on Rockfort Island, occurring three months after the events of Resident Evil 2.

The project comes from the same team behind the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 remakes, according to Kotaku. That outlet also reported the remake is third-person only, with no first-person mode or toggle.

The Producer’s Case

Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi used a Summer Game Fest interview to explain why a 2000 entry warrants a remake on par with the series’ numbered games. “To us, Code Veronica is just as vital and important as a numbered Resident Evil entry. So, the discussion that arose in the development team was, what’s something we can do to communicate that to our audience?” he said, according to Video Games Chronicle.

That thinking shaped the decision to drop “Code” from the title. “If you think about our recent mainline entries and the titles, you probably noticed a pattern, that they have a one-word subtitle that encapsulates a very important part of the game,” Hirabayashi said, per VGC.

The producer also tied the project to Claire Redfield’s arc following Raccoon City. “One of the key motivations behind [remaking Veronica] was that we also wanted to tell the story of Claire after the events in Raccoon City,” he said, adding that “Her experiences haven’t left her the exact same person that she was in RE2,” according to VGC. Hirabayashi confirmed the remake is a third-person game, like RE2 and RE4, the same outlet reported.

What We Don’t Know

Capcom has not shown gameplay or committed to a firmer date than the 2027 window, according to Video Games Chronicle. The reveal centered on a trailer rather than playable footage, and further details have not yet been provided.
