Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon C Platform, a new entry-tier Arm processor aimed at the lowest-cost segment of the Windows laptop market. According to Qualcomm’s announcement, the platform targets laptops priced at “$300 and up” and ships with an integrated neural processing unit (NPU), extending the company’s push to put Windows on Arm and on-device AI features into price tiers it has so far left to Intel-based machines. The chip was unveiled on May 28, 2026, ahead of Computex, as reported by Engadget.

What We Know

Qualcomm is positioning Snapdragon C below its existing Snapdragon X line. The company frames it as a value-oriented part for everyday computing rather than demanding creative work. Per Engadget, Qualcomm says the chip is built for “smooth web browsing, video streaming and productivity” and is not designed for tasks such as 3D rendering or 8K video editing.

The headline differentiator at this price is the NPU. Qualcomm says the platform includes an “integrated NPU for AI capabilities in the entry-tier,” allowing budget laptops to run on-device AI workloads. The company did not publish detailed performance figures for the chip. Notebookcheck reports that “Qualcomm has not yet confirmed any details about the chip’s features” and that while “the processor is equipped with an AI accelerator,” Qualcomm “does not provide any information on the performance of this NPU.”

Qualcomm named Acer, HP, and Lenovo as launch partners for the first Snapdragon C devices, according to Qualcomm. Notebookcheck points to the Acer Aspire Go 15, configured with 8 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD, as an example of an early design. Qualcomm says the first laptops are “expected to hit shelves later this year,” per its announcement.

The pitch centers on battery life and quiet operation rather than raw speed. “As costs rise and customer expectations evolve, Snapdragon C brings together value oriented computing, all-day battery life, AI capabilities and responsive performance in cool-quiet devices for expanded platform choice,” said Kedar Kondap, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Compute and Gaming at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., in the company’s press release. Qualcomm describes the target audience as students, families, and small businesses.

What We Don’t Know

Qualcomm has disclosed little about the silicon itself. As Notebookcheck notes, the company has not confirmed the chip’s core configuration, clock speeds, or graphics details, and has not quantified the NPU’s throughput. That makes it difficult to gauge how the part will perform against Intel and AMD budget processors or against the Snapdragon X family; Notebookcheck expects Snapdragon C to be “significantly slower than the Snapdragon X.”

It is also unclear how the platform fits Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC program, which carries a minimum NPU performance bar. Notebookcheck says it remains uncertain whether the chip supports Microsoft Copilot+ features. Final laptop pricing, configurations, and exact ship dates beyond “later this year” had not been detailed at announcement.

Analysis

Snapdragon C extends Qualcomm’s Windows-on-Arm strategy downmarket. Until now, Qualcomm’s PC effort has concentrated on premium and mainstream tiers through the Snapdragon X line, leaving the cheapest Windows laptops to x86 chips from Intel and AMD. A part engineered specifically for the $300 segment, with an NPU included as standard, is an attempt to make Arm-based Windows machines a default option rather than a premium one — and to put on-device AI features in front of buyers who would not otherwise encounter them.

The move also lands against renewed competition for budget buyers. Engadget frames Snapdragon C as a response to Apple’s MacBook Neo, which is priced at $599 and $499 with student pricing, giving Windows manufacturers an Arm-based alternative to Intel at the entry level. Whether Snapdragon C succeeds will depend on details Qualcomm has not yet shared: real-world performance, the maturity of Windows-on-Arm app compatibility at this price, and how aggressively Acer, HP, and Lenovo price the finished machines.
