Unity announced its next major engine version, Unity 7, at the Unite Seoul developer conference, according to Inven Global. The centerpiece of the announcement is an unusual promise for a major version bump: upgrading from Unity 6 will require, in Game Developer’s words, “zero rebuilding,” because the new engine is a “direct continuation” of the Unity 6 architecture. Unity 7 is scheduled to enter early beta testing in December, with the official version arriving in the first quarter of 2027, according to Inven Global.
